Hamilton Carpet One Floor & Home in Maspeth, NY has you and your home covered when you need tile. Tile allows you to let your creative side out with a vast array of colors, styles and patterns to choose from. You can have tile installed on not just your floors, but also on your walls and on the outside of your home. Our flooring professionals are here to help you choose the perfect tile options for your next home project.
Tiles are made of natural materials like sand, clay, and ground stone. Since tile is made with mostly natural materials, it is known as a “green” product. So, in addition to tile being long-lasting, it is also a great flooring choice for our environmentally conscious homeowner.
Below, Jim Aaron explains how to choose the perfect tile for your home.
Types of Tile
We have three main tile options to choose from including: ceramic, porcelain, and stone.
Most commonly installed in homes and businesses are porcelain and ceramic tile. Both tile types come in a wide selection of colors, styles, patterns, shapes, and sizes. Porcelain and ceramic tile are made from the same materials, but porcelain is classified by its density after being fired in a kiln. Ceramic is a light weight option, and is also budget friendly. Porcelain tile is much denser than ceramic, and can resist water and heat better.
We also have natural stone tile, and because stone is quarried from different locations, no two slabs are alike which means you can have a truly custom floor.
Depending on the type of tile you choose, tile can go pretty much anywhere inside and outside of your home. Wall tile and floor tile are similar from the surface, but much different when broken down. Wall tile is lighter and more absorbent so it can adhere to walls better, whereas floor tile is meant to be wear resistant and long lasting.
The way the tile is fired and the glazes used can help determine where that tile can be installed. Tiles that are denser and have a high moisture resistance are ideal options for places like your bathroom and even outside as a patio or walkway.
Other places you can install tile include laundry rooms, mudrooms, kitchens and entryways.
